The coastal road is scenic but can be busy, so travelers may prefer ferries during the peak season. The region is best enjoyed at a slower pace, with time for a seaside meal, a short walk, or a view from a village terrace rather than trying to visit every town in one day.
Tuscany attracts travelers with rolling hills, vineyards, medieval towns, and long lunches. Siena’s Piazza del Campo and historic center are highlights, while San Gimignano is known for its distinctive towers. The Val d’Orcia, south of Siena, is especially appealing to travelers who want countryside views and a less crowded rhythm.
Italy’s top attractions are spread across the country, and rushing between them can turn a holiday into a series of train stations and queues. A better plan is to choose two or three main regions and leave room for unexpected discoveries. A small neighborhood bakery, a quiet church, or a local market may become just as memorable as the famous landmarks.
